Before implementing SaltStack to manage any data center infrastructure it is important to understand a few things about SaltStack platform support including: What platforms will the Salt Master run on? What systems and infrastructure can be managed by a Salt Minion? What operating systems are covered by SaltStack Enterprise Support offerings?
SaltStack software runs on and manages many versions of Linux, Windows, Mac OS X and UNIX. The SaltStack Supported Operating System document defines the specific operating systems that are fully supported by SaltStack and outlines the package creation policy for each operating system listed. The document also outlines the best-effort SaltStack support policy for additional operating systems.
The SaltStack Support Operating System guidelines, in addition to the SaltStack product lifecycle phases and definitions listed below, are intended to clearly define how long a particular operating system and SaltStack version will receive official packages, testing and technical support.
